The Countdown is on to the Launch of the new Treasure Island Oldies website

Well it has taken months of planning, discussion, and production, but my new webmaster, Eddy Fisher, and I are very excited with the end results and this Sunday, March 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Pacific, we invite you to the launch of the brand new Treasure Island Oldies website.

Joining me on the phone from Colorado will be Ali Knight, a wonderful artist whose work we discovered online. When we saw a particular piece, we immediately said 'that's it' for our new look. Ali is very pleased to have it included as the signature graphic for the new site.

I'll also be taking listeners on a tour of the new site at various times throughout the show.

Hope you can plan to be part of this new look for Treasure Island Oldies this coming Sunday, March 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Pacific.

See you then.

Gary Lewis & The Playboys

I'm pleased to feature a very popular group to Treasure Island Oldies listeners this week on Voice Your Choice. Gary Lewis & The Playboys were from Brooklyn, New York. Gary Lewis (real name Levitch) is the son of comedian/actor Jerry Lewis. The Playboys consisted of Al Ramsey and John West on guitars, David Walker on keyboards and David Costell on bass.

During the course of their career, they charted 15 singles which ranged from hitting #1 and achieving Gold Record status (This Diamond Ring written by Al Kooper), to peaking at #63 (Rhythm Of The Rain originally a hit for The Cascades).

This week on Voice Your Choice we feature two of their hits: Count Me In OR Green Grass. You can have your say in what we play on the show by voting for the song you prefer and would like hear.

Come to Treasure Island Oldies and cast your vote!

See you Sunday, March 5 for the live show.

Freddy Boom Boom Cannon

Remember "Palisades Park", "Talahassie Lassie", "Where The Action Is" and the other hits by Freddy Cannon? I just discovered he has a blog, which I have now subscribed to. I'll be sure to keep you up to date with his news and updates.

If you come across any other artist blogs from the greatest era in music, the '50s, '60s' and '70s, please let me know. I'll be sure to pass the news on here at my blog as well as on my radio show Treasure Island Oldies.

Help me build a great list of artist blogs.
Bye for now.

A Big Hunk O' Love - Defeated!

Some weeks on Voice Your Choice, the results of the vote are close or are tied. This past week, that was NOT the case, as "One Night" defeated "A Big Hunk O' Love" by a big margin: 73% vs 27%.

Thanks for voting, it's so cool to have your participation in this key weekly feature of my radio show Treasure Island Oldies.

The Strangeloves

The Strangeloves, Bob Feldman and Richie Gottehrer, were a cool team of songwriters and producers in New York City's Brill Building. They wrote and produced "My Boyfriend's Back" by The Angels as well as "Hang On Sloopy" for The McCoys. They also had a few hits of their own: "I Want Candy", "Cara-Lin", "Night Time" and "Hand Jive", all on Bang Records, the home of the early classic Neil DIamond hits and The McCoys. Later, Richie Gottehrer became a partner in the innovative and very succssful Sire Records, owned by Seymour Stein. They signed Talking Heads, Focus, The Ramones, and others. Gottehrer went on to produce the first two GoGos albums as well as the debut for Blondie. Very talented guy indeed!

This week on Voice Your Choice we spotlight The Strangeloves. Wanna hear either "I Want Candy" OR "Night Time"? Come to the website and click on the song of your choice. The winner will be plaed in Hour 3 on this week's show.

The Beatles on Ed Sullivan

On Sunday, February 16, 1964, The Beatles performed for the very first time on the Ed Sullivan Show and Beatlemania was officially happening! On this week's show I'll re-play that amazing classic performance. Relive Beatlemania all over again.

The Association on Voice Your Choice

Now that the tie vote is out of the way, I wonder how things will turn out this week on Voice Your Choice. It's The Association and either "Cherish" or "Never My Love". You can vote by going to Treasure Island Oldies and clicking on the song you'd like me to play. Who wants to bet it will be another close one again this week?!

Neck and Neck this week

WOW a complete tie for Harpers Bizarre on Voice Your Choice . That has not happened very often at all. All the way through the first 2 1/2 hours it was close, then the final vote came in to make a tie. So I played both songs: Come To The Sunshine and Chatanooga Choo Choo
More next weekend.

Thanks for cool response

I gotta say thank you for all the great feedback and comments on last night's tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper I did on my show. It was fun to dig up that Mike Berry Tribute To Buddy Holly song from the UK. I really appreciate hearing from you with your thoughts and comments.
Cheers.

Day The Music Died

February 3, 1959
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper all died in a plane crash shortly after leaving Clear Lake, Iowa enroute to Fargo, North Dakota. Some have referred to this sad event as The Day The Music Died, perhaps more so as a result of the Don McLean hit "American Pie". Fortunately, music didn't die that day nor did their memory. This Sunday on my Treasure Island Oldies show I will devote the entire 4th hour to remembering Buddy, Ritchie and the Big Bopper. I'll play some of their most known and also less known recordings, plus a couple of neat songs as well. The UK's Mike Berry recorded A Tribute To Buddy and Waylon Jennings, who was actually supposed to be on the plane that night but took the tour bus instead, recorded a wonderful Buddy Holly Medley. Hear them both and more on my show live Sunday, February 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Pacific or the archive at http://www.TreasureIslandOldies.com

Request a Valentine Song

Over the next several days, I'll be starting to prepare my annual Valentine Special on Treasure Island Oldies. I thought that I'd let you know well in advance, in case you'd like to send in a request or make a dedication. You can send in as many song requests as you like, and I'll do my best to play as many on the Valentine show on February 12 as possible. But please remember, the music I play is from the 1950s, '60s and '70s. Maybe I should call it the "Dedicated To The One I Love" special?! LOL

Bye for now.
