This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week Of November 24th, 2013

November 24th, 2013 to November 30th, 2013

Thanks for listening to this week’s show. It was great to be able to come up with more Lost Treasures for you to remember and enjoy. A great example is The Diplomats with Here’s A  Heart. I haven’t played that song on the show in nearly three years, and it was so good to hear again. I always try to play an interesting blend of huge hits and also mix in some songs you may not have heard in years. I also enjoyed playing Wives And Lovers by Jack Jones, as part of this week’s Lounge Double, and also a request from Ineyda Velazquez in Homestead, Florida.

The Treasure Island Oldies Chat Room was busy again this week and it was so nice to see long time listener, Jack, aka Jax, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, come back for a visit. He made the very first request on the show way back in 1997 and I actually remembered what he had requested and played I’m Into Something Good by Herman’s Hermits for him on this week’s show. I’d love to have you stop by the Chat Room for a visit; just Click Chat on any page of the website and follow the instructions. Hope to see you soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my American friends and listeners a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy a nice long weekend in celebration with your family and friends.

Be sure to mark your calendar for what has become the most popular show of the entire year. The Annual Treasure Island Oldies Christmas Special will air Live, December 22nd beginning at 6 pm Pacific and if you miss the Live show you’ll be able to hear the Archive throughout the Christmas holidays.

If you have a birthday fast approaching, be sure to let me know so that I can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send your birthday details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing The Shirelles in a live performance of Will You Love Me Tomorrow. It’s our Song Of The Week. Enjoy!

This Week On Treasure Island Oldies - Week Of November 17th, 2013

November 17th, 2013 to November 23rd, 2013

Now that was some special! How very cool to have so many songs with a story as the lyric narrative that they could fill an entire four hour show. Well that’s just what happened this week on the show with the Story Songs Special, only the second time since the show began back in 1997 have I done this theme as a special, and the last time was in 2008. It was great to hear El Paso, Harper Valley P.T.A., Gypsy Woman, Ode To Billie Joe, and so many more great stories. I’d like to thank you for the excellent requests for the show this week, via email and the 24/7 Listener Line at 206-339-0709. I was very glad to be able to play those songs you wanted to hear. There will be more specials for your enjoyment coming in 2014, and the dates and themes will be posted on the Schedule page soon. But the next special will be the annual Treasure Island Oldies Christmas Special. That’ll happen Sunday, December 22 for the Live show and then throughout the Holiday Season on the Archive.

Remember that I’d love to wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday by The Beatles to help you celebrate your special day. The only way I can do that is if you let me know. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing one of the greatest story songs of the 1960s. It’s Bobbie Gentry and the Ode To Billie Joe. It’s our “Story” Song of the Week.

Martha & The Vandellas are in the spotlight on Voice Your Choice. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either I’m Ready For Love or My Baby Loves Me. I’ll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week’s show.

Here’s the Rock And Roll News for the Week of November 17th.

Bobbie Gentry hit the top of the charts in 1967 with the amazing story song, Ode To Billie Joe. That song garnered Bobbie Gentry a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1967.

In keeping with the Story Songs Special this week on the show, the Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing Bobbie Gentry, in a live performance on the Smothers Brothers TV show of Ode To Billie Joe. It's our Story Song of the Week.

Enjoy!

This Week On Treasure Island Oldies - Week Of November 10th, 2013

November 10th, 2013 to November 16th, 2013

It was great getting together with you again this week on Treasure Island Oldies. I must tell you what happened this week regarding the first song I played to start off the show. I had decided I wanted to begin with Watch Your Step by Bobby Parker. I love its high energy and how it was influenced by What’d I Say by Ray Charles. Two days later I was shocked to hear the news of his passing and then posted the news to the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. What a strange and odd coincidence! And then there was the news that Pete Haycock, the founder and guitarist with Climax Blues Band, had also passed away. I always try my best to recognize when one of our recording starts have passed and pay tribute to them on the show by playing a song or songs in their memory.

Speaking of memories, your memories will be rekindled by the songs you’ll hear next week on the Story Songs Special. It’ll be Live Sunday, November 17th beginning at 6 pm Pacific, and Later on the Archive. I remember conjuring up all kinds of images suggested in some of those story type records. For example, I’d often try to picture the images portrayed by Lorne Greene in Ringo. So I know you’ll enjoy hearing these great story songs next week on the show. Depending how late it is when you listen to the show, it could make great bedtime stories. J

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to two long time listeners and friends: Connie Canode, in Madison, Wisconsin, and Chris Whitmer in Iowa City, Iowa. If you have a birthday coming up, I invite you to let me know so that I can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing the winner of Voice Your Choice this week. It’s Dusty Springfield with a tremendous live performance of All I See Is You. It’s our Song Of The Week.

Speaking of Voice Your Choice, Martha And The Vandellas are being featured. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either I’m Ready For Love or My Baby Loves Me. I’ll play the winning song in the 3rd hour of next week’s Story Songs Special.
