This Week On Treasure Island Oldies - Week Of October 6th, 2013

October 6th, 2013 to October 12th, 2013

Although the fall is a lovely time of year for all the dazzling fall colours on the leaves, it's also getting darker earlier. Well we'll plow through autumn and winter together with some hot and bright tunes. And there were lots of great songs on this week's show including your requests, thanks. Not sure you remember, but you can check out every songs played on the show each week by going to the Listen page and scroll down for the latest show Playlist. And next week's Playlist will have lots of songs as part of our Annual Canadian Thanksgiving Special Live next Sunday, October 13 beginning at 6 pm Pacific. I look forward to having you join my on the Island next week.

As you know, every now and then I'll play something new by an artist. Most of the time it is what I refer to as a heritage artist. Recent examples include that latest singles from Paul McCartney, New, and Elton John, Home Again. On this week's show I just felt compelled to share a new artist with you whose album has captivated my attention since I first heard it last week. His name is Blake Morgan and the album is Diamonds In The Dark. In my opinion he is a tremendously talented songwriter, singer, musician (he played every instrument on the album with the exception of the drums) and he also produced it. I was pleased to let you hear the first two songs from the album, Water Water Everywhere and I Can Hear You Say. It is not often that I rant about a new album; this is one time for sure! You can hear snippets of the entire album at iTunes. As I said to his publicist, if this were another time, Blake Morgan would be a household name. Check it out for yourself.

If you have a birthday coming up, I invite you to let me know so that I can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing a song that was featured on this week's Tom Locke Moment In Time. It's the Ray Bryant Combo with DJ Eddie Morrison making the calls. The video clip is an instructional video on how to do The Madison, featuring swing and dance specialists Jennifer Comar and Paolo Pasta Lanna. Check out The Madison Time. It's our Song of the Week.

Voice Your Choice spotlights Harry Nilsson with two of his biggest hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Without You or Coconut. I'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show. It'll be interesting to see if his strident ballad or rocking novelty song wins.
