This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of January 26th, 2014

January 26th, 2014 to February 1st, 2014

What a great time this week on the show. The Chat Room was buzzing with the regulars and also new friends. In fact, Linda from West Plains, Missouri stopped by for a first time visit. She surprised everyone by saying she’s been listening to the show since it began back in 1997! We all hope she’ll become a regular. I must say if you come for a visit during the live show, you’ll find it is a nice enhancement to the show itself. There’s lots of conversation about a given song that’s playing at the moment, and it often prompts an “instant request” from someone. Try it for yourself by coming to the website then Click Chat on any page; follow the instructions and you’ll soon be with the other Nuts in the Hut. Hope to see you next week.

I wanted to share an update I received from Ian MacLeod, General Manager, RadioMax Radio Networks in the People’s Republic of China. Another new station, CNAE, is on the air at 95.1 FM in Shenyang, in addition to the stations in Beijing, Anshan, and Liaoyang. Furthermore, “the People’s Liberation Army has seized on the entertainment value and so from Lhasa Tibet to the Gulf of Aden, the shows are being rebroadcast for the enjoyment of the young men serving their country”.  Treasure Island Oldies is the most recent show to become part of the programming schedule. According to “Mac”, it has met with tremendous success. What really surprised me is the following comment: “the music content is excellent, and a lot of our university students are turning to his speech patterns as actual English lesson content! Also the servicemen patrolling the pirate-infested waters of the Gulf of Aden have voiced their enjoyment at listening to Michael’s shows while they are out there on a very lonely water for hours, days, weeks and months at a time.” Holy smoke! Can you believe it??!! I am thrilled with the response and humbled by the comments.

Happy Birthday wishes to Sally Link in Peoria, Illinois. My thanks to her friend Cora Quinn for letting me know. If you have a birthday approaching, let me know by sending the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I’ll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

The Temptations - Voice Your Choice

The Temptations were one of the main star acts of Motown Records. They were: Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams, and Elbridge Bryant. For a period of time, David Ruffin joined the group, replacing Elbridge Bryant.

What a treasure trove of hits they had! 15 Top Ten records, including 4 Number One hits, 6 Platinum sellers and 11 Gold Records. WOW isn't that impressive.

This week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice presents The Temptations with two of their many hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Masterpiece or Run Away Child Running Wild. I'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

Dave Clark Five - Song of the Week

The Dave Clark Five were a big part of the British Music Invasion of the mid-60s. They appeared on TV's The Ed Sullivan Show more than any other British group and scored numerous hits.

This week the Treasure Island Oldies Blog presents the Dave Clark Five in a rare British Pathé News Documentary shot in their home town of Tottenham, England.

Here are the Dave Clark five performing both Glad All Over and Bits And Pieces. Toegther they are our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

This Week On Treasure Island Oldies - Week of January 19th, 2014

January 19th, 2014 to January 25th, 2014

It always surprises me just how quickly the four hours go by every week while doing the show. The pace of the programming, the emails, the chat room and all the great interaction make the time fly. The Chat Room was also busy and we welcomed back Shirley from Cincinnati, Ohio. She’d been having problems with her computer and was unable to come by the chat room for a period; but everything is back to normal for her. Welcome back, Shirley. Everyone missed you and your company. And we’d more than welcome your company as well. On Sunday nights during the Live show, come to the website and click Chat. Follow the instructions and you’ll soon be among a nice group of people who have become good friends over the years.

Isn’t it hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and their popularity went through the roof. I mentioned on the show that I’ll be featuring a different Beatles songs from 1964 weekly on the BBC – Big Beatles Classic – feature on the show during the first half hour.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Fred Waterer in St. Catharines, Ontario and to my sister, Louise Godin, in Gatineau, Quebec. And if you have a birthday approaching, let me know by sending the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I’ll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing the Grass Roots and Midnight Confessions. It’s our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice spotlights Simon and Garfunkel with two of their many hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Fakin’ It or My Little Town. I’ll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week’s show.

Here’s the Rock and Roll News for the week of January 19th
