His first smash hit happened in 1959 and was the novelty type tune Seven Little Girls (Sitting In The Back Seat). The female vocal duo, The Curls (Sue Singleton and Sue Terry) provided the background vocals. Together they hit the Top Ten. Paul also had hits with his version of Midnight Special, Happy Go Lucky Me and The Brigade Of Broken Hearts.
But he was not only a recording artist. As a songwriter he wrote the hits "When" for the Kalin Twins, "Roses Are Red" for Bobby Vinton, "I Gotta Know" and "The Next Step Is Love" for Elvis Presley. And he also wrote the score for the Broadway show Loot and the movie Live Young.
This week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice presents our good friend, Paul Evans with two of his hits for your votes.
Come to the Voice Your Choice page and cast your vote for either Midnight Special or Happy Go Lucky Me. I'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show.
