August
3rd, 2014 to August 9th, 2014
Remember the days when you’d turn on your radio at home or in the car
and it would be normal to hear an instrumental record every now and then. Back
in the 50s, 60s and somewhat in the 70s instrumentals were both common and
popular. Today you rarely hear an instrumental song on the radio. Maybe that’s
why my annual Instrumental Gems Wordless
Wonders Special has become so popular over the years. This year is no
exception, with lots of Requests,
either via email or calls to the Treasure Island Oldies Listener Line (206-339-0709). To my surprise, it has
become one of the most popular and commented on shows of the entire year. Apart
from the regular Nuts in the Hut,
the Chat Room also had listeners
drop by just to say hi and to say how much they were enjoying the all instrumental
special. Thanks very much for your comments and compliments. In case you missed
hearing the Live show or would like to hear it again, be sure to go to the Listen page and click Archives to hear this week’s special.
Our next special will be at the end of the month for the Labour Day, Back To School, End of Summer
Special, Live, Sunday August 31st beginning at 6 pm Pacific.
You’ll hear some “work” songs, “school” songs and the last of the “summer”
songs for this year. Mind you, I’m not in a hurry for August to end, as I just
love summer so much, I don’t want it to end. I’ve felt this way all my life. J
If you have a birthday coming up soon, be sure to let me know. I’ll be
pleased to help you celebrate by wishing you Happy Birthday on the show and I’ll also play Birthday by The Beatles
for you. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.
The Treasure Island Oldies Blog
is playing The Ventures, possibly
the most successful instrumental group of all time. Keeping in the theme of
this week’s Instrumental Gems Wordless Wonders Special, here are The Ventures with Walk, Don’t Run. It’s our Instrumental
Song of the Week. Enjoy!
Voice
Your Choice is featuring The Isley Brothers,
with two of their later hits, next week on Treasure Island Oldies. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either It’s Your Thing or I Turned You On, both from 1969. I’ll play the winner next week in the 3rd
hour of the show.
Here’s the Rock and Roll News

Well that’s about it for this week. Thanks again for a great time on
this week’s show and remember to listen to the Archive.
Bye for now.
