He was born Al Cernik on February 27, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, but he was better known to his fans as Guy Mitchell. During the 1940s, he sang with big band orchestras including Carmen Cavalarro's Orchestra. Sadly he passed away at age 72 on July 1, 1999.
He hit his stride in the 1950s and appeared on the charts a total of thirteen times between 1957 and 1962, including 2 Top Ten hits, Singing The Blues and Heartaches By The Number. He also appeared in several motion pictures including Those Redheads From Seattle and Red Garters.
