August 18th to 24th, 2019
It was great to be back from vacation and together again on The Island. This week on the show the Spotlight Year is 1960, an interesting year for music with some songs harkening back to the sound of the '50s, while others were heading more into the '60s pop sound. It's great that so many artists from the '50s were able to continue having a large fan following and many hits as well. Artists like Ray Charles, Jimmie Rodgers, Elvis Presley, Paul Anka and others continued on the charts with a lot of hits well into the 1960s. As always, the complete list of every song I played is available on the Listen page. Just scroll down to the Playlist.Next week on Treasure Oldies marks the 20th year for the Moment In Time feature on the show. Tom Locke, who created the feature and both researches and writes every a new Moment In Time every week, will join me in the studio as we take a retrospective look at some of the most memorable Moment In Time stories. This is going to be a very interesting show.
Coming up in two weeks on September 1st, its the annual Labour Day End Of Summer Back To School Special. I'll play some work songs, a smattering of the last of the summer tunes and some school tunes too. It's a great way to end the Summer season and prepare for Fall.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Fay Greenwood and Matt Meaney from Langley, British Columbia, two very good friends and regular listeners of the show. The happy couple are able to celebrate their birthdays together, only several days apart. Is your birthday coming up soon? If it is, I'd like to help you celebrate it on the show. Send the month and date to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I'll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your
Choice spotlight Creedence Clearwater Revivial. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Down On The Corner or Fortunate Son. I'll play the winner on next week's show.
This week the Top Five Countdown is from 1960. Continuing his reign as the King Of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley has the Number One Song on the charts. It's Now Or Never is playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog.
