Carl Dobkins Jr. was born Carl Edward Dobkins on January 13, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Incidentally, "Junior" was added to his name when he started singing at age 16.
He first recorded for Fraternity Records in 1958 but it wasn't until a switch to Decca Records the following year that things started to happen for his recording career. While he did have a short-lived career, in fact he only charted four songs on the Top 100 in 1959 and 1960, they were definitely memorable hits. He retired from the music business in the mid-'60s and still lives in Cincinnati today with his wife Janice. They have two daughters and grandchildren. He still performs occasionally at age 73.
Treasure Island Oldies presents Carl Dobkins Jr. with two of his hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Lucky Devil or My Heart Is An Open Book. I'll play the winning song during the 3rd hour of next week's show.
