Don Gibson was born on April 3, 1928 in Shelby, North Carolina and became a very successful songwriter, singer and guitarist. This is amazing: he charted 82 hits on the Country charts between 1956 and 1976.
On the Hot 100 chart he scored 14 hits, including the Number One smash, Oh Lonesome Me. As a songwriter, many of his tunes were recorded by big name artists including Ray Charles (I Can't Stop Loving You); and Faron Young, Patsy Cline as well as Tommy McLain all had hits with Sweet Dreams.
Treasure Island Oldies presents Don Gibson in the Voice Your Choice spotlight. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Blue Blue Day or Oh Lonesome Me. I'll play the winner during next week's show.
