Jackie DeShannon was born Sharon Lee Myers on August 21, 1941 in Hazel, Kentucky. She sure started her career early on, as at age six she sang country songs on a local radio station. By 11 she was hosting her own radio program.
She continued singing and caught the attention of Liberty Records in 1960 and released several records that were mostly regional hits.
Two of her earliest hits were Needles and Pins and and a song she wrote, When You Walk In The Room. Both became hits for The Searchers during the British Music Invasion of the '60s.
