This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of February 23rd 2020

February 23rd to 29th, 2020

Some consider 1967 to be a pivotal year for music. It was a year that featured pop, rock, folk, psychedelic songs, and even protest songs. That about covers the gamut in music styles; and this week's show reflected that diversity throughout the show. From 60s pop of The Seekers, to the soul of Sam & Dave, to the rocking Detroit sound of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, to the country sound of Roger Miller, the folk music of Simon & Garfunkel, as well as the psychedelic sound of Sagittarius, the show was packed with variety. Check out every song I played this week by going to the Listen page and scrolling down to the Playlist.

Hey Marianne, Bill, Ruby, Sue, Billy, and  Jim, you could hear your name on the show. You could when you listen to  The Name Game Special, coming up Sunday, March 15th. Listen and you just may hear your name  in a song title. It's a fun show named after the fun song by Shirley Ellis.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Linda Russell Johnson in West Plains, Missouri. If your birthday is coming up soon, I'd like to help you celebrate your birthday with all the show's listeners. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I'll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you. By the way, Happy Leap Year to all whose birthday falls this week on February 29th.

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice features jazzier side of Canada's rockers, Bachman Turner Overdrive.  Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Looking Out For #1 or Blue Collar. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

The Top Five Countdown is from 1967, our Spotlight Year on the show this week. The Number One song is by The Buckinghams. The first time I heard it on the radio, I thought they were singing Canada Dy. They weren't. LOL  Kind Of A  Drag is playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog.

Have a good week.

Bye for now.
