From WWVA Television:
SLAB FORK, W.Va. (WVVA) - World renowned singer songwriter and West Virginia native, Bill Withers, has passed away.
He wrote and sang a long list of soulful songs in the 1970s that have
stood the test of time, including "Lean On Me," "Lovely Day" and "Ain't
No Sunshine.
"Lean On Me," was performed at the presidential inaugurations of both
Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and made Rolling Stone's list of the 500
Greatest Songs of All Time.
Lately, people have posted videos of their versions of the song as inspiration during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a statement released from his family to The Associated
Press, the 81-year-old died in Los Angeles from heart complications.
Withers was born in Slab Fork, West Virginia, and moved to Beckley at age three.
I'll pay tribute to Bill Withers during this week's Treasure Island Oldies show.
