Barbara Lewis was born February 9, 1943 in Salem, Michigan, near Ann Arbor. She was discovered by Ollie McLaughlin, a Detroit radio DJ. Her debut single, My Heart Went Do Dat Da, was only a regional hit in the Detroit area. However, in non-typical fashion for the time, she wrote every song on her debut album, including Hello Stranger.
Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice features Barbara Lewis. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Baby I'm Yours or Make Me Your Baby. I'll play the winner on next week's show.
