Sergio Mendes was born in Brazil on February 11, 1941. Although he recorded jazz albums with Atlantic and Capitol Records, it wasn't until it was suggested that he and his group sing in English that his career really took off. One of the two female vocalists in the group was Lani Hall, who would later marry A&M Records co-founder, Herb Alpert. Interestingly as well, Sergio Mendes are far better known in the United States than in his native Brazil.
They had many hits on both the Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, including the two songs we are featuring. Treasure Island Oldies presents Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 in the Voice Your Choice spotlight.
