February
2nd, 2014 to February 8th, 2014
I am very pleased to pay Tribute
to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper and The Day The Music Died. My annual tribute takes up the entire 4th
hour of this week’s show. You’ll hear news bulletins, interview clips and of
course a lot of their great music. After all these years, their deaths in that
fateful plane crash still resonates today. So we recognize the tragic accident
but also celebrate their great music.
Next week on the show we celebrate two things: Valentine’s Day week and
also the 50th anniversary
of The Beatles appearing for the
first time on the legendary Ed Sullivan
Show on TV. I’ll play back their electric performance amid the screaming
teenagers packed into the theatre. The rest of the show will be the Annual Valentine’s Day Special with
lots of love songs for your romantic enjoyment throughout the week. And if
there’s a particular song you’d like me to play, let me know. You can also have
a dedication to your special someone. Click
Requests on any page of the website or Call
the Listener Line at 206-339-0709 and record your message.
I’ll do my very best to play your special song.
Happy
Birthday wishes go out to twin sisters Judi
Gunter in Calgary, Alberta and Janet Dunnett in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia. All the best to you Judi and
Janet. And if you have a birthday approaching, be sure to let me know so that I
can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and also play Birthday by The Beatles
for you. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.
The Treasure Island Oldies Blog
is paying tribute to The Day The Music
Died with a live performance by Don
McLean of American Pie. It’s our Song of the Week!
Voice
Your Choice returns for another week, this time featuring Al Green. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either I’m Still In Love With You or L-O-V-E (Love). I’ll play the winning
song in the 3rd hour during next week’s Valentine’s Day Special.
Here’s the Rock and Roll News
for the week of February 2nd.
Listen to the Top 5 Countdown
from 1966.
Remember next week I’ll play back the
performance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and also celebrate Love
in the Air with our Annual Valentine’s
Day Special.
Have a good week,
Bye for now.
