This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of February 9th, 2014

February 9th, 2014 to February 15th, 2014

What a week! The 50th Anniversary of the first appearance by The Beatles on TV’s the Ed Sullivan Show. 73 million people in the United States alone watched that historic performance by John (sorry girls, he’s married), Paul, George and Ringo. I was so pleased to play back that first appearance by the Fab Four. It’s a night that 73 million plus people have in common to this day. Next week I’ll play their second appearance, this time the show was on remote live from Florida. In addition to the 50th Anniversary this week, it’s also Valentine’s week and our Annual Valentine’s Day Special on Treasure Island Oldies. Thanks for your email, chat room and Listener Line requests; I was pleased to play your songs. And we’ll continue to spotlight 1964 with many songs from that year on next week’s show.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Guylaine Coté in Quebec City, Quebec. If you have a birthday coming up or know of someone’s birthday you’d like me to extend greetings to, be sure to let me know by sending the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I’ll also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is celebrating Valentine’s Day this week with a very cool tune from a little known group other than their one hit. It’s The People with I Love You, recorded live at the San Jose Rock Hall of Fame event in 2007. It’s our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice presents The Arbors, best known for their great cover of hit originally recorded by The Box Tops. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either A Symphony For Susan or The Letter. I’ll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week’s show.

Here’s the Rock and Roll News for the week of February 9th.

Listen to the Top 5 Countdown from 1957. You’ll note that were are two versions of Young Love in the Top 5.
