The Doobie Brothers hailed from San Jose, California, and while there were a number of personnel changes over the years, the core consisted of lead singer Tom Johnston, Tiran Porter (bass), Patrick Simmons (vocals and guitar), and John Hartman (drums). Michael McDonald became the lead singer in 1975 and the band took a slightly different musical direction.They hit the charts an impressive thirty times between 1972 and 1989, and achieved two Gold Records and five Top ten hits.
