Denny Doherty (from Halifax, Nova Scotia) and
John Phillips formed a new group that included John's wife,
Michelle.
Cass Elliott was the last member to join.
While their debut single, Go Where You Wanna Go, failed to leap to success, their follow-up more than made up for lost time. California Dreamin' became a smash and an all-time classic to this day.
Between 1966 and 1972, they appeared on the Hot 100 charts a total of 17 times. They included two Gold Records and six Top Ten smashes.
