Bill Withers was born on the 4th of July, 1938 in Slab Fork, West Virginia. He debuted on the charts in 1972 with a Gold Record and the Number Three hit Ain't No Sunshine. That song and its follow-up, Grandma's Hands, were produced by Booker T. Jones, from Booker T. & The MGs. He also produced the B Side of Ain't No Sunshine, the stunning Harlem! That song is one of my personal all-time favourite R&B Soul songs of all time.He had 14 songs appear on the charts between 1971 ans 1984, and this week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice spotlights two of the three Gold Records for Bill Withers: Ain't No Sunshine and Lean On Me.
