June 15th, 2013 to June 21st, 2014
What a wonderful celebration for all dads on the show this week with our Annual Father’s Day Special. There are more than enough songs relating to dads to fill the entire 4 hour show and then some. And I played some of the best. Thanks for your requests and input. Be sure to join me again next week, Sunday, June 22nd, for the second of three back to back specials, when it’ll be the 18th Annual Summer Beach Party. There’ll be the sun, the surf, the sand, the greatest summer songs of all time and, oh yes, the seagulls! Be careful and don’t look up into the sky with your mouth open. LOL In two weeks, Sunday, June 29, it’s the Annual Music of Canada Special where I will feature songs by Canadian artists and groups, and songwriters who made their mark regionally, nationally and around the world.
It was an honour to dedicate this week’s show to the late Casey Kasem, who passed away on Father’s Day, June 15th. And I bet many of you had never heard the record I played by Casey that he recorded in 1964, A Letter From Elaina. Some of his trademark show elements, like reading letters from listeners on the air, were included when he began American Top 40 in July 1970. Many people around the world were entertained by Casey every week, and he also inspired a generation of would-be DJs to pursue their passion and become a radio personality. He was also the voice of Shaggy on the cartoon series Scooby-Doo. What a career! Thank you Casey Kasem, R.I.P.
If you have a birthday coming up soon, please be sure to send the details to firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll wish you Happy Birthday on the show and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.
In conjunction with our Annual Father’s Day Special this week on the show, the Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing a clip from the very popular TV series from the early 1960s, The Donna Reed Show. The video features Paul Peterson singing My Dad and it’s our Song of the Week. Enjoy!
As part of our Annual Summer Beach Party next week on the show, Voice Your Choice presents The Beach Boys. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either All Summer Long or Catch A Wave. I’ll play the winner next week.
Here’s the Rock And Roll News for the week of June 15th.
Listen to the Top 5 Countdown from 1963
Well that’s about all for this week’s update. Be sure to bring your sunscreen for next week’s Summer Beach party on Treasure Island Oldies.
Bye for now.
