Island Update - Treasure Island Oldies Week of March 1st, 2020

March 1st to 7th, 2020

It's March! Spring and its new beginnings are just around the corner. And this week on the show we celebrated another new beginning, the decade of the '60s, with the Spotlight Year 1960. I played songs by some artists who straddled both the '60s and '60s, including Connie Francis, The Everly Brothers, Conway Twitty, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and many others. Many recording artists got their start at the beginning of the decade including Johnny Burnette, The Brothers Four, Etta James, and Jimmy Jones. Check out all the songs I played on this week's show by going to the Listen page and scrolling down to the Playlist.

Speaking of March, it was 13 years ago this month that long time listener, good friend and music collector, Rick Canode became a contributor to the show. Every week since 2007 Rick researches and comes up with Rick's Rare Rock & Roll Relic. He's entertained us with the results every week. Happy 13th Anniversary Rick and thanks very much. Here's to many more Relics!

We're just a couple of weeks away from our next special,  The Name Game, Live Sunday, March 15th. Listen and you just may hear your name  in a song title. It's a fun show named after the fun song by Shirley Ellis.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Roy Geldart in Campbell River, British Columbia. If your birthday is coming up soon, I'd like to help you celebrate your birthday with all the show's listeners. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I'll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice features Badfinger, the first group signed to The Beatles' Apple Records. Originally called The Iveys, Badfinger had many songs that hit the charts. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Come And Get It or Day After Day. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

The Top Five Countdown is from 1960, our Spotlight Year on the show this week. The Number One song is by The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Stuck on You is playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog.

You know, some think podcasting is a "new phenomenon". I'm proud to say the Rock and Roll News Podcast has been happening every week since 2006 and it's consistently in the Top 5 Oldies Podcast downloads and listens around the world. Thanks to Podomatic. Check it out for yourself. Click here for this week's Rock and Roll News Podcast.

Take care and have a good week.

Bye for now.
