This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of July 23rd, 2017

Week of July 23rd, 2017 to July 29th, 2017
What a summer! It seems it is either raining or there are fires burning. In recognition and with no disrespect for anyone affected by either of these events, I played Fire and Rain by James Taylor as this week's Weather song. It sure seemed fitting. Hopefully things will return to normal before too long in both Canada and the United States. As the British expression goes "Keep Calm and Carry On".

I am excited about a new contest coming to Treasure Island Oldies. You will have an opportunity to win a brand new high-end coffee table book called Blue Suede Shoes - The Culture Of Elvis, written by Thom Gilbert.
The cover of this brand new and very cool book is actually blue suede with gold tassels, and carries a suggested list price of $84.00.
The interesting thing about the book is that it is about the people who knew Elvis and whose lives were affected by knowing him. This is NOT yet available, but courtesy of the publisher, Glitterati Incorporated, I have a copy that you could win. Be sure to listen to the ENTIRE show the week of August 13th. I'll play two Elvis Presley songs per hour and all you have to do is send a list of the 8 Elvis songs in total, along with your name and mailing address to contest@treasureislandoldies.com. In order to give our Broadcast Partners Network affiliate stations the chance to air the show throughout the week, the deadline for submitting your email is 12 Midnight Pacific time, Friday, August 25th. I'll announce the winner of the contest on the Live show Sunday, August 27th.

Be sure to mark your calendar for our next special in a couple of weeks, one of the most popular specials of the entire year. The Instrumental Gems Wordless Wonders Special will air Live Sunday, August 6th. Get your requests in to me quickly to be sure I will be able to include them in the special for you.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Mark in Georgetown, Texas, and to Patty in Port Hope, Ontario. If your birthday is coming up soon, I'd like to know so that I can help celebrate your special day by wishing you Happy Birthday on the show and also by playing Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send the info to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

This week's Top Five Countdown is from 1958. And the Number One song is a rocking classic by Elvis Presley. Hard Headed Woman is playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice spotlights Roger Miller. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Dang Me or England Swings. I'll play the winning song on next week's show.

Here's this week's Rock and Roll News Podcast.

Thanks again for listening to the show. I look forward to your company again next week.

Bye for now.
Michael
