Jimmy Elledge died Sunday, June 10, 2012 of complications following a stroke. He was 69. Jimmy
was singing at a nightclub in Biloxi, Mississippi at the age of 18 when
he sent a demo tape to Chet Atkins. Chet liked what he heard and was
instrumental in getting Jimmy signed to RCA Records.
"Funny How Time
Slips Away", a tune written by Willie Nelson and produced by Chet,
became his only hit, reaching #22 on the pop charts in 1962 but
suprisingly striking out on the country charts. Jimmy never charted with
another pop record but did manage to reach #95 on the country charts 13
years later with "One By One." He continued to entertain and record
until his stroke.
