It's been learned that
Toni Arden passed away at her home in Lake Worth, Florida May 29 at the
age of 88. The Manhattan native was best remembered for her tune "Padre"
(#13-1958), but she charted five other times, including covers of "I
Can Dream, Can't I?" (#7-1950), "Too Young" (#15-1951) and "Kiss Of
Fire" (#14-1952). Born Antoinette Ardizzoni, she sang with Al Trace, Joe
Reichman, Ray Bloch and Shep Fields' big bands before striking out on
her own. She also appeared in the 1958 movie, "Senior Prom" Vic Damone
once called her ""the greatest girl singer in the world" and Frank
Sinatra referred to her as "a singer's singer."
