The Standells, from California, had one member who was already famous before they recorded one note. Dick Dodd, at age 9, became one of the Mousketeers on Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club. He later went on to become a member of the surf music pioneering group, the Bel-Airs, which scored a hit in 1961, Mr. Moto. He went on to movies and was a dancer in the 1963 film version of the
musical Bye Bye Birdie.
Dick Dodd and the rest of the members Larry Tamblyn, Tony Valentino and Gary Lane, became a big success in 1966 with their garage-rock sound. Dirty Water went all the way to Number 11 on the Hot 100 chart. Their follow-up single ins one that became overshadowed with time. But we've got both songs for your votes.
