Island Update: Special 20th Anniversary Edition
Week of May 7th, 2017 to May 13th, 2017
Wasn't
that a Party! Thank you for such a great celebration. It was great to
have usual special features being extra special on the show this week
including the artist greetings, and a very cool Rick's Rare Rock and
Roll Relic with "Rock and Roll Radio" by Joe Boot and the Fabulous
Winds, and a great Moment In Time from Tom Locke that had a
retrospective feel with the addition of former Moment In Time sponsor
Sorrells Pickard Gourmet Peanut Butter and a fantastic commercial plus a
great story and song by Kenny Rogers, Twenty Years Ago. We had a record
crowd in the Chat Room and the "Nuts in the Hut" were all having a
ball. We had our regulars, occasional visitors and some brand new folks
who soon became honorary "Nuts". LOL It was great to reminisce about the
early days of the show, played back phone messages I received right up
to show time, read some wonderful emails from listeners, played some
classic IDs of radio stations that have aired the show over these past
twenty years, and also played back some wonderful phone calls and
greetings from folks who called in 10 years ago for our 10th
Anniversary. They all wished the show at least 10 more years, and this
week we in fact reached that additional ten year milestone. There are
just too many individuals over the years to thank by name; but I do
thank you all so much. By the time the four hours were over, I was
exhausted and drained. But what a great feeling!
I
am pleased to let you know that we completed in time for the show,
brand new Broadcast Partners Network page. It is now no longer just a
list of stations that carry the show. The page now spotlights the
various FM, AM, Online and even Shortwave radio stations around the
world that carry the show. You can now also check out the weekly program
grid and find a day and time that is convenient to you to hear the
latest show played back on our Broadcast Partners stations. You can
click on the click for any station and it will bring you to that
station's website in a new window. My very special thanks to my partner
and Webmaster extraordinaire, Eddy Fisher, for this great new addition
to the website.
When
I began the show on May 4, 1007, it was a three hour show Sunday
afternoons, but before long switched to the current evening time and
expanded to four hours. I had no idea it would endure and be picked up
by radio stations around the world. 20 years later, I am still having a
blast bringing you a new show every week. I sure hope we have many more
years together.
Next
week on the show we pay respect and show our love for our Moms, whether
still with us or not, for our annual Mother's Day SpecialIf you have a
birthday coming up soon, I'd like to help celebrate your special day by
wishing you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The
Beatles for you. Send the details tobirthdays@treasureislandoldies.com
The
Top Five Countdown on this week's show is from 196. And the Number One
song is by The Shirelles with a real '60s classic, Soldier Boy. It's
playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!
The
Skyliners are in the spotlight next week for Voice Your Choice on
Treasure Island Oldies. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Since I Don't Have You or This I Swear. I'll play the winning
song on next week's show.
Here's this week's Rock and Roll News Podcast.
Have
a great week and thanks again for celebrating the 20th Anniversary of
the show with me. I look forward to your company next week for our annual Mother's
Day Special, here on the Island.
Bye for now.
