American singer Jimmy Clanton was born September 2, 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he became known as the "swamp pop R&B teenage idol". Isn't that a mouthful! He recorded for Ace Records and reached the Billboard charts a total of seven times, including his signature hit, Just A Dream.
Jimmy Clanton starred in the movie Go Jimmy Go, produced by disc jockey Alan Freed, as well as Teenage Millionaire, with music produced and arranged by Dr. John. He even went on to become a DJ himself and worked at WHEX in Columbia, Pennslvania.
Treasure Island Oldies is pleased to spotlight Jimmy Clanton on next week's Voice Your Choice. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either A Letter To An Angel or Venus In Blue Jeans. I'll play the winner on next week's show.
