The Chantels were an R&B vocal group from The Bronx, New York. Arlene Smith, Sonia Gorin, Rene Minus, Jackie Landry and Lois Harris formed their group while in high school. They chose their name from a rival high school, St. Francis de Chantelle. Their manager, Richard Barrett, who was a singer as well, also discovered Little Anthony & The Imperials, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers and The Isley Brothers. He signed The Chantels to a record contract with Gone/End Records.
Between 1957 and 1963, they scored 8 singles on the charts, and although none of them reached the Top Ten, a couple of them have become timeless and this week on Voice Your Choice we feature those two classics.
Choose either Maybe or Look In My Eyes by going to Treasure Island Oldies and clicking on the Voice Your Choice button. Select the song you prefer and from all the votes submitted, we'll play the winning song in the third hour of our 10th Annual Mother's Day Special.
