B.J. Thomas was born Billy Joe
Thomas on August 7, 1942 in Hugo, Oklahoma and later moved to Rosenberg,
Texas, where he was raised. While in high school he joined a band, The Triumphs and together they recorded their first hit single, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, a song written in 1949 by Hank Williams.
B.J. Thomas had 26 songs hits hit the charts between 1966 and 1983, with an impressive 5 Top Ten hits and 3 Gold Records. And he continued his success after the pop hits with an even longer streak of success in country music.
