Clarence Carter was born January 14, 1936 and was blind from birth. He attended Alabama State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music.
One of the many songs he wrote, Tell Daddy, inspired Etta James to record the "answer song", Tell Mama. Another record of his was the raunchy seasonal hit Back Door Santa, which I play during the Christmas season on Treasure Island Oldies. His biggest hit was Patches, a smash in 1970 selling over one million copies.
Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice presents Clarence Carter. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Slip Away or Snatching It Back. I'll play the winner on next week's show.
